30 Jan SDUK response to Creative Scotland funding decisions
SDUK joins with Scottish organisations and individuals in expressing our disbelief and anger at the recent Creative Scotland funding decisions.
Scotland has traditionally led the way in funding artist led touring companies as well as more expensive building based companies. The majority of cuts have hit the touring sector (not the buildings), which are predominantly director/artist led theatre companies – of 11 touring companies in the portfolio 7 have been cut completely.
Agencies and sectoral supporters have been celebrated and there appears to be no room for director/artists lead enquiry and a sustainable programme of work. It seems that the RFO portfolio has now been swelled with bureaucratic organisations, umbrella groups.
We await clarity on how Creative Scotland is looking to engage with touring companies, and we will continue to support Scottish directors who are effected by the changes to arts funding, and the fall out from the funding decisions.
